ROMAN
Temperature/Relative Humidity/Wind Speed Maximum/Minimum Summaries
ROMAN has been designed for use by fire weather professionals
and others requiring access to current fire weather conditions around the nation.
Comments and suggestions for improvement are encouraged and can
be sent to meteo-mesowest@lists.utah.edu.
The 5
Day Maximum/Minimum Summaries provide access to 24-hour maxima and minima
of either temperature, relative humidity, or wind speed during the past 4 days
for all available weather stations within the selected region, as well as the
maximum and minimum values since local midnight at each station. Past data can
be accessed by selecting a day, month, and year from the pull down menus.
The page reloads every 10 minutes in order to display the most current conditions
available. The page will not reload if past data is being viewed.
Settings
The user can change the settings as follows:
variable to display: temperature (F), relative humidity (%), or wind speed
(mph)
region of interest: GCA, County Warning Area, Fire Weather Zone, or state
network type: RAWS, NWS/FAA and RAWS, or all networks
time: set day to "current" for current time, otherwise for past
dates.
Tabular Format
Subregions within the geographic region of interest are defined as follows:
Geographic Coordinating Area: Predictive Service Areas (PSAs)
National Weather Service County Warning Area: forecast zones
National Weather Service Fire Weather Zone: fire weather forecast zones
State: counties
The first column contains the station name and identifier defined by participating
agencies or firms. Long names are truncated. The second column contains the network
name and elevation. The next two columns contains the maximum and minimum values
observed during the current day since midnight at the station. The time of the
maximum and minimum values are given according to the station's local timezone.
The rest of the columns provide maxima, minima, and times for the previous 4 days.
Stations are ordered within subregions alphabetically by name. Click on 'Sort
by elevation' to list stations within subregions from highest to lowest elevation.
The subregional average is reported at the bottom of each subregional division.
Notes
The maximum and minimum values listed are the maximum and minimum determined
from the collection of available observations. Therefore, the actual maximum
temperature may have occurred between observations available in the MesoWest
database.
For NWS/FAA stations, the 6 hr max/min is displayed in the table instead
of that detemined from the hourly reports, if the 6 hr value is more extreme.
These numbers are printed in black since they do not have the quality control
of the other values. Also, the time of max/min occurence is not displayed.
Wind speed values refer to the sustained wind. In some cases, this
could be the wind averaged over a period as long as an hour. Summary information
on gusts is not available at this time.
Quality control: In addition to the quality control available in other programs,
there is also a check for the amount of data that was available for each daily
period. Adequate, marginal, or inadequate amount of data available to define
the maxima and minima are displayed in green, yellow, or red respectively.
When the date is changed (e.g. looking at historical data), the links to
the Station Weather Display are changed such that they will display past data.
