ROMAN has been designed for use by fire weather professionals
and others requiring access to current fire weather conditions around the nation.
Comments and suggestions for improvement are encouraged and can
be sent to mesowest@met.utah.edu.
The
Fire Weather Monitor displays those stations and conditions which exceed user-defined
thresholds of wind, relative humidity, and precipitation in the selected area
for any given time (e.g. current or past time). The Fire Weather Monitoris updated
every 10 minutes when displaying current data.
Settings
The user can change the settings as follows:
The number of hours prior to the valid time for which the database will
be searched (up to 24 hrs)
network type: RAWS (default), NWS/FAA and RAWS, or all networks
region of interest: GCA, County Warning Area, Fire Weather Zone, or State
Variable Thresholds:
Sustained wind speed (mph) in excess of
Gust (mph) in excess of (two thresholds available)
Relative humidity (RH) less than
Relative humidity (RH) greater than
Precipitation rate (inches/ # of hours) in excess of
To not use one or more of the thresholds, leave the threshold
blank
Boolean Operators
And (default value): Lists stations for which all
of the selected thresholds have been exceeded at the same time during
the selected time period. If all the conditions are satisfied at a station
more than one time, then the most recent observation will be displayed.
When the boolean operator And is selected, only one gust and RH
threshold are active. For example, if values are entered in both RH options,
then only the RH less than value will be used. If the threshold "RH less
than" is left blank and the threshold "RH greater than" has a value entered,
then the latter threshold will be used.
Or: Lists all the stations that have exceeded the threshold
value for each variable individually during the selected time period.
The stations will be listed in descending order of severity for each variable.
For each station, only the most extreme value that occurred in the time
period will be listed.
Time
The user can view extreme fire weather conditions in the past by entering an hour,
day, month, and year and clicking on "Change Time". Doing this will:
change the title to "Historic Fire Weather Monitor"
make appear a link that will reset the Fire Weather Monitor back to the
current time
change the links to the Station Weather Display such that data from the
past period will be displayed
